Tile cleaning can be a difficult task.  The grout lines and top layer of the tile can often present a challenge to clean.  One of the contributing factors causing this is the buildup with soap.  This often leaves a residue deposit on you tile, thus creating a magnet for soil attraction.  As a side note, a mop and bucket technique is not your friend.  This old fashion method is applying both soap and dirty water on your tile creating buildup of soap and dirt overtime and then becomes difficult to remove.  This is why I recommend having your tile and grout professionally cleaned every so often.  Most professional carpet cleaners can clean tile and grout with amazing results.  They use high powered equipment and great products that removes all the buildup over the years with new like results!   I recommend this to get a clean slate with a deep professional cleaning before trying to maintain your tile and grout properly.   With all of this in mind I have listed below some great tips to help with maintaining your tile cleaning after a professional cleaning.

  1. Pencil erasers: What’s great about pencil erasers is they remove shoe marks most of the time and marks made by other removable surfaces, such as chairs, tables, and other rubbery textures.  They get those black scuff marks left by shoes and other transferable things.  It’s a beautiful thing!

  1. Lighter fluid: Lighter fluid also works great to help remove shoe marks.  As well lighter fluid can remove dark stains from any porcelain tile in your kitchen, bathroom, or hallways.  Be careful not to get it on your hands or breathe it in.  I highly recommend gloves and a mask to keep you safe.  Also make sure you rise it well. And no smoking while using, just in case you get a boom boom!

  1. Vinegar and ammonia: These products work great for all the stubborn areas located in bathrooms, sinks or showers.  I highly recommend vinegar mixed with water for regular cleaning.  It’s the bee’s knees!

  1. Lemon juice: Believe it or not this is a powerful acid that helps to remove excess grime.  Though if you have marble tile do not use lemon juice on it because the powerful acid is too harsh and can damage marble.  Who ever thought?

  1. Limon juice and salt: This is great for tile in front of your fire place or other stubborn areas alike.  Salt is great for loosening soot created by the smoke.  It’s the bee’s knees and cat’s pajamas.

  1. Club soda: Club soda is perfect for the grease that buildups from cooking in your kitchen.  Also Coke can do the same thing.  Just apply the club soda, let it dwell for a minute to break it down then mixed with water and then start the scrubbing.  I also recommend using a firm brush for the agitation.  A tooth brush will do. Watch and be amazed at the cleaning potential of soda power!

  1. Hydrogen peroxide: This is a powerful removal for juice stains, tea stains, coffee stains and nail polish stains.  Before using hydrogen peroxide I recommend cleaning the top surface first then whatever is left use this product to remove the stain.  This product works best to use dwell time.  Spray and let it sit for a minute then simply wipe it off and rinse with clean water.

  1. Bleach solution: Great for those dingy porous grout lines.  Be sure to use a brush.  A tooth brush is the perfect size for this.  Though if you use bleach I recommend you do this in a well ventilated area and use gloves and a mask for your health.  Also be carful not to get any on your cloths or carpets.  This will remove the color and create whats called a bleach stain.  Nothing can remove a bleach stain because its not really a stain but a color dye remover.

  1. Helpful tip: I also recommend changing your water and cleaning liquids often when cleaning your tile.  The reason for this is your grout lines will absorb whatever you clean with.  Dirty water and soap will only worsen your situation.  Also try to avoid using soap to clean with because it’s a magnet for dirt.
