We as parents love to watch our kids Scribble scribble scribble – they are having a blast are doodling, drawing big swoops and curves with their magic markers!  But wait!, right as they’re finishing off the princess’s dress with an energetic flourish, the marker skips right off the page and onto their shirt.  Your child looks and you and says “Oh No!”

While your kids in most cases probably won’t mind a new splash of color on their clothes, you sure do.  Besides they only think of all the fun their having and not the money it cost to be a kid.  Well…  That’s what kids do.  Thankfully we’ve got a great tip on how to save their shirt or dress from magic marker stains!

What You’ll Need to grab
– Rubbing Alcohol is very important for (tougher fabrics) or a Lemon (normal fabrics)
– Plenty of towels

Step 1
Start the process by simply laying down a clean towel and laying the item on it, stain down.

Step 2
Next, wet a towel with either the lemon juice or rubbing alcohol and blot the back of the spot repeatedly, working from the outside edge toward the center.   Working from the outside in keeps the stain from spreading worse. The goal in this step is to break down the stain and get the other towel to absorb it.

For tougher fabrics, you can use rubbing alcohol. For normal fabrics, use lemon; for delicate fibers (silk or satin), dilute the lemon juice 1:1 with water.*

*Always taking care when using homemade solutions on your clothing. Test the solution first on a small corner or hidden part of the item to make sure it won’t cause color loss or damage. Remember to be especially careful if the item is made of natural fibers. Natural fibers are very sensitive.   Also there is product to purchase online that can be more careful on your delicate fabrics.

Step 3
Once you notice no more of the stain coming out, start to run cold water through the back of the item to completely    rinse out the alcohol/lemon juice to hopefully force out more of the staining material.  Remember the faster you clean the stain when it happens the more likely it won’t settle and create a stubborn stain.

Step 4
After you completed the steps listed above, launder the item right away, but examine it before drying to make sure the spot is gone. If it remains, retreat the item one more time.

And that’s it – the magic marker mark should be gone. We sincerely hope this helps as you work hard to keep your home (kids, pets and spouse) clean.
