It has been proven through microscopic studies that your kitchen sponge is defiantly one of the most filthiest things in your household. Even more than your toilet seat! Also they are more commonly and frequently used cleaning items in households. From dishes to countertops to tables, sponges are used to clean consistently and a variety of things. But are you aware that you can be spreading a significant amount of bacteria on all these surfaces by using a dirty sponge? As previously mentioned, sponges are used to clean a variety of things and the consistent moisture of a sponge allows bacteria to live and multiply. So the question you may be asking yourself now is, how do I disinfect my kitchen sponge? I’m glad you asked because Quality Care Carpet Cleaning is about to show you how!

Microwave

This is probably the most common (and simple) and green ways of the sanitation methods. Simply rinse all off or soak with hot water the sponge and place it in the microwave for one minute forty five seconds. Be sure that the sponge is wet as a dry sponge can catch on fire in the microwave! It would be smart to check the sponge half way in the microwave.

Dishwasher

This, too, is a simple method of cleaning a sponge. Place sponge in the dishwasher when washing dishes and use the “heated dry” feature. This kills 99.99 of bacteria! God bless the one who invented the dishwasher!

Bleach soak

First, mix 1 cup of bleach and one gallon of hot water together. Secondly, place sponge in the solution for five minutes to ten minutes. (Remember to use hot water to maximize killing effectiveness.) A cool tip: Mix the solution in your kitchen sink to clean both the sink and the sponge all at once! Killing two birds with one stone! Yeah baby!

Vinegar soak

Another simple solution. Place sponge in a small container and pour in 6 ounces of super-hot vinegar. Let it soak for about 5 minutes to ten minutes and your sponge is beautifully sanitized!

Trash can

If any of these ideas seem pointless to your or you feel just are not working you can always use a throw away sanitizing technique. It’s easy, how you do this is you find your kitchen trash can, open it if it has a lid, then simply throw away your dirty sponge. It works, guaranteed every time. The only bad part is you now have to go purchase a new one.
