As people become more aware of toxic chemicals and how they can affect ones health over a period of time, it seems more and more people are looking for more natural organic alternatives to cleaning their homes. It’s a proven fact that many of the chemicals in cleaners today cause asthma for non-asthma healthy people.  Though the problem with shopping for organic products is they run high in price compared to all the other over the counter cleaning chemicals.

Below I have listed a few eco-friendly options that are not so high in price and you may also be surprised at how you may already have some of these natural cleaners right in your kitchen or pantry. The best thing to know about these powerful natural cleaning agents I have listed below all are very reasonably priced.

  1. Vinegar:   Vinegar is a strong cleaning agent with an antibacterial effect and acidic nature.    Also using hot water mixed with it help to activate its acidity.  White vinegar works well at dissolving grease.   Also vinegar is an ideal cleaner for all your countertops in your bathrooms and kitchen.  This makes one feel much better knowing loved ones are touching both clean and natural surfaces.   What also is amazing about vinegar is how well it gets rid of urine odor in carpet, upholstery and other fibrous materials.  Also it can help remove the yellowing urine creates.  Follow up with peroxide and you could remove the entire yellow of the urine.  The trick is using vinegar as soon as possible for its best effectiveness.  If not then you may have to contact a professional cleaner to deal with the odor and staining.
  2. Lemon Juice:   What is interesting about lemon juice is how many commercial brand cleaners include lemon juice in their products.  Lemon Juice kills mold, cuts through grease and leaves no streaks.  You can also combine natural lemon juice and vinegar and/or olive oil to create a tough cleaning solution that can deal with most spots and stains and it leaves a pleasing scent behind that makes you sing for jolly good joy.
  3. Salt: Salt is known for being gently abrasive and a powerful disinfectant.  Excellent for cleaning utensils and drains.   When used with baking soda it can cut right through grease.  It’s known for whitening food stained cutting boards when used for everyday cleaning.  Also it can remove burn marks and stains off of dishes.   As well it can clean your toaster.
  4. Cream of Tartar: Cream of tartar is formed from a winemaking process.  Wine can produce a powder inside the wine barrels while it is fermenting.  This powder is formed from tartaric acid.  It is purified into a white powdery substance that is also used for baking.  It can be used for cleaning bathtub tile, rust and fixing scratched dishes.   It’s the bee’s knees and the cat’s pajamas!
  5. Baking Soda: Believe it or not baking soda is a natural deodorizer and out performs many other toxic powered chemicals used as deodorizers.  You can apply it to your kitchen and bathroom surfaces to effectively remove stains.  It can also work effectively at cleaning inside grimy ovens.  Adding salt gives baking soda a power boost of scrubbing powder.  It’s a happy dance waiting to happen!
