Butter Spilled on White Carpet

Butter is no fun to get out of carpets.  People don’t realize that butter can be somewhat of a challenge to remove once it is spilled on your beautiful white carpet.  The reason why butter is so challenging to remove out of your soft white carpet is because due in large part to their greasy, oily texture. Most standard detergents or house hold cleaners are not made to battle greasy food stains, which is why butter can be tricky to remove from materials such as cotton, denim, linen and polyester fibers.

Below I have listed some ways to rescue that gorgeous soft pillow like purl white carpet.   Just remember if the suggestions below don’t work for you then you can simply call your local professional carpet cleaner who could very easily remove that butter stain for you.  Make sure they use the industry standard method called hot water extraction. This is done by hot water jets that pray water onto those butter saturated areas and thus blasting it clean off the soft white fibrous carpet!

  1. REMOVE THE EXCESS. Grab a perfectly good useable utensil and attempt to remove the top layer of butter. Be careful not to smother your butter.  Just simply use the edge of your utensil and work your way into the top layer of butter.  Make sure you do it with a funny face.  This makes the process so much funnier!
  2. ABSORB.  Sprinkle a power product like baking soda or cornstarch and allow it to absorb the butter. Allow 20-35 minutes of dwell time before you remove it.  After the time period is up then vacuum it up.    Repeat this process as many times as you want if necessary.  Remember to do it with a funny face!
  3. CLEAN. After completing the step above now simply apply a mixture of dishwashing soap and very hot water.   In most cases this should remove the butter stain. Repeat this process as many times as you want if necessary.  After that rinse well with just water and blot with a towel.  Don’t forget that the funny face is the most important part of this step also!

4.DRY CLEAN-SOLVENT. If the stain remains then try using small dry-cleaning solvent with a sponge or rag.  Blot with the sponge until you see the stain disappear. Remember to do a hidden test area before you start on the stain.   Every carpet reacts different to cleaning products. Funny face is import as well!  Don’t forget to put on the funny!  It makes life’s troubles seem to be so much less troubling.
