Here are a few household solutions for cleaning mold.
1. Hydrogen Peroxide
This cleaning agent if awesome! It is an anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial solution that kills mold effectively leaving it helpless against its awesomeness! Blast this stuff on your materials, kitchen appliances (look behind and underneath), bathroom fixtures, floors and walls. Go crazy and don’t be lazy with this power house mold killer!
Mixing into a bottle is simple, just simply Pour 3% concentration hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle and the rest H2O. Find your moldy area and saturate the moldy surface completely and leave it to sit for 10 minutes. Repeat for absolute kill.
The next step is to scrub the area with your fingernail… just joking, use a bristle brush or towel. Next, scrub the area to remove all of the mold and mold stains. And then, wipe the surface down to remove residual mold and spores.
2. Vinegar
Vinegar is a great cleaner! Great for floors, countertops, bathrooms and much more! It’s a mild acid which can eliminate 82% of mold species. (If you want you can also use power house baking soda is often used along with vinegar for killing different species of mold).
3. Baking Soda
Baking soda is a mild, white mineral powder, that can be used to kill mold in your home, plus it is safe for your family and pets. Besides just killing the mold, it will also absorb the moisture that feeds the mold and help to keep it away. One thing to try is either hydrogen peroxide or vinegar and use the baking soda as a preventive or after cure.
To kill mold with baking soda simply add one quarter of a tablespoon of baking soda to a spray bottle of water and shake until it has completely dissolved. Spray on contact to the moldy area with the baking soda and water mixture, then use a sponge, towel or scrub brush to remove all the mold from the surface. Next you rinse the surface with hot water to remove any remaining mold on the surface. Finally, simply spray the area again and let the surface completely dry. Again this will kill any left-over mold and prevent the mold from returning.
All of the non-toxic solutions mentioned above are great alternatives to store bought chemical based cleaners. They are safe and cheap and make the whole house clean and healthy happy!
