There are things in life that can frustrate any carpet owner. One of them is spilling ink in the carpet. All it takes is a broken pen that simply falls to the ground and before you know it in hesitation you’re scrubbing away in hopes to remove that nearly impossible stain.  If this has happened or just happened to you I completely understand your frustration. So I have done some research to list some ideas that will save you from going crazy and of course your carpet too. Here is four ways that I now of getting ink out of your carpet.

-RUBBING ALCOHOL:  This method takes take’s patience.   Dwelling time is the key to that success of this method. The time is takes to do this process is approximately 20-40 minutes. When you blot the ink spot make sure to work from the outside in to prevent from spreading.   You may have to repeat several times over to get all the ink out. Good luck!

-WD-40: Wow! Who knew right? All you have to do is simply spray this product onto the stained area and allow it 10-20 minutes to dwell. Then clean thoroughly with a towel and hand cleansing soap. This may seem wrong but it does work!   WD-40 is an oil based product and it usually take oil based products to pull anything that contains oil out of something.

-DETERGENT:  In order for detergent to work it has to be applied right away. Remember the longer a stain settles the more likely with will leave a stain.   Sometimes Detergent is the first stem then try some of the other methods listed. Take one cup of hot lava water and one teaspoon of sweet detergent and mix them together. Lightly apply and dab it out.

-HAIRSPRAY:  It works just like alcohol listed as our 1st option. Simply spray the hairspray onto the stain and let the hairspray dwell for 4-6 minutes. After dwelling time is up just simply blot up with water and soap. Remember to work from the outside in. You don’t want to spread the ink any further. Also blot and don’t scrub the stain. By scrubbing the stain you can set it in further and thus creating a deeper penetrating stain.

Remember to always to a test patch before trying these methods.  Some carpet fibers respond differently to the products being applied. Especially wool or natural fibers.  Also remember to thoroughly rinse the product out of the carpet. Sometimes by leaving residue behind it can retract soils when walked over and create a dirt patch over time.
