coffee stain removal

It’s the early morning, you’re enjoying your cup of coffee and the caffeine hasn’t quite woken you up. OH NO! You’ve just spilled your coffee and that is one bad wake up call, as you watch it seep into your carpet.

It’s happened to the best of us, and it’s not only a ruiner of mornings, but spilling coffee can be a ruiner of carpets too.

No worries, we’re here to help you with our coffee stain removal guide in five easy steps.

1. Blot Blot Blot

The first step is to always react quickly, using a clean (preferably white) cloth to blot the coffee. Blot in the direction of the outside of the stain to the middle so that you prevent a spread.

It’s important that you don’t rub the carpet as this can force liquids to get trapped in the fibers which is going to make the stain more difficult to remove.

2. Wet the Stain

The next step is to pour a little bit of water on the stain to loosen and dilute the now dried coffee. Again, blot away, starting at the edges and moving to the middle of the stain.

Repeat this step a couple of times until you cannot see any more of the coffee transferring from the carpet to the cloth (this is why a white cloth works best).

3. Apply a Cleaning Solution

Maybe you’ve got store-bought cleaning solutions that you can turn to. If you’ve got a carpet stain remover, apply it in this step. If you haven’t, don’t stress, there are many natural carpet cleaning solutions!

The most common cleaner uses things that almost everyone has in their home: One tablespoon of white wine vinegar, one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, and two cups of warm water. Voila!

Using a new cloth, apply a stain remover using the blot method. Then use a dry towel to remove more of the stain – again, with the blotting technique.

4. Rinse With Cold Water

Once you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, use cold water to rinse the area. Let the carpet air dry naturally and avoid walking on it.

5. Call a Professional

Some stains are just too pesky to remove by yourself. You may know how to clean coffee stains but for some reason, it still remains, taunting you every time you walk past. Shaggy carpets are particularly difficult to clean, and the color of the carpet makes a big difference too.

It’s okay to admit defeat and call in a professional carpet stain removal.
