Ugh! What’s that smell?  Your carpet collects more than just dirt.

How successful these steps will be will be determine on how long the odor has been in the carpet. Also the type of odor it is and the depth of odor. Like in your padding or backing of carpet.

Level One:  Airing out the place is a good start. Open all windows, door and of course fans. Let all the doors be opened and set your ac unit to fan mode. It will run continually to help circulate the air.

Level Two: Try vacuuming. If your vacuum cleaner is not helping try checking the level it’s clean and make sure it’s cleaning those carpet fibers well. Also check the bag and make sure it’s not full. Or maybe you need a new vacuum cleaner.

Level Three: One of the best under the counter options is of course baking soda. Sprinkle it on your carpet. Then brush it in with a broom or hand held brush. Then reapply the baking soda generously. Let it sit and work. I would give it up to three days. Then vacuum. It usually works well if done generously. If you still notice an odor then repeat the process.

Level Four: Okay so you tired the baking soda trick and still the odor persist. This time try vinegar. Either blot or spray. If you think the odor is deep in your carpet use a generous amount for deep penetration. Let it sit for about 40 minutes. Then blot up and rinse with clean water.

Level Five: This is your last resort. Hydrogen peroxide. Apply just like the vinegar. Remember to do a color fast test to make sure it doesn’t remove color from your carpet.

If all this fails then contact your local professional carpet cleaner. Quality Care Carpet Cleaning is a good choice.
