Many customers have informed me that when they want to save money on their carpet cleaning they go and rent a DIY portable machine vs hiring a professional carpet cleaner.  After renting the machine they have also informed me it’s not as effective as a professional cleaning.   It often times over saturates their carpets for long periods of time and they become worn down by the amount of refills and time consuming work.  They sometimes notice their carpets getting dirty within a month after the clean because of the overload of soap residue and so on…    Needless to say they tolerate the trouble a rented portable often produce to save a little extra cash.

Something to consider when cleaning your carpets, they are an expensive piece of property and add property value to our homes.   Therefore there should be great consideration for our maintained investments if we want them to last their new like appearance.  My professional opinion is that by not having them properly cleaned by a certified (IICRC) professional could only worsen their condition.  A lack of knowledge and training as well as equipment will worsen carpets over time.

Here is a list of important information to consider when renting a portable:

1)   Less than desired results

-This is because the machines lack power for penetration, suction and heat. You get what you pay for
2)   Long dry times

– This is caused by the machine not extracting the massive amount of water it uses.  It oversaturates your carpets and even your padding and can result in bad smells and can form mold.  Also cause brown soil spots to appear while drying.  This is known as “brown out.”

3)   Spots returning

-If you have heavily saturated spots in your carpet, your machine will not effectively remove all that is in your pad and only wet what is down there.  When you first clean it looks great but after a day or so you notice the spot returning.  This happens when your carpet is drying the saturation spot makes it ways to the top.  It’s like a wick in an oil lamp.  It manifest what is on the bottom.

5)   Brown spots appearing

-This issue is caused by over wetting and soaps / detergents left in the carpet when drying and pushing dirt to the surface.  Another reason for this is by the type of fiber causing the browning effect.

6)   Shrinkage

– Not all carpets have this issue but by knowing the type of carpet you have and its construction is something most certified (IICRC) professionals would know.  This problem can also be caused by excessive amounts of water.
7)   Rapid re-soiling

– This results from the amount of detergent used in the machine leaving its high alkaline ph residue in carpet.  Your carpet is supposed to be on the ph meter of a 7.   Most certified (IICRC) professionals understand this, and so they use a pre-spray before cleaning then they rinse it out afterwards with a proper rinsing agent without injecting it with more solution.  This is the proper way to clean and rinse carpets. If you rent a portable it is recommend to rinse your carpets with regular water after cleaning to help remove all the soap you used to clean it.  This is all the more work, its like cleaning your carpets twice.

I hope you found this information informative and helpful.  Not only does Quality Care Carpet Cleaning discourage renting portables but highly recommend using a qualified (IICRC) professional.   Something important to know is that certain carpet cleaning companies claim they are (IICRC) certified but this does not mean the individual cleaning your carpet is.  If a carpet cleaning technician is certified by the (IICRC), they should carry with them the (IICRC) certification.  You should ask to see their certification before they clean your carpets. If they don’t have it then ask them politely to leave!

Quality Care Carpet Cleaning prides itself in maintaining (IICRC) standards for all of its technicians.  At this time it only has one technician who is highly qualified and will be the one cleaning carpets.   His name is Tim Moore (owner and technician).  He not only has his certification but management experience to go with it.  He used to work for a large carpet cleaning company in Dallas TX and became one of their trainers.  He trained other technicians in how to properly clean carpets.  If you are looking for the right company and the right professional to take care of you the right way then please feel free to contact us by phone, 940-206-2372 or email [email protected] or even our website www.qualitycarecarpetcleaningtx.com!
