How often should I vacuum my carpets?

Most people vacuum once a week. This should be sufficient for most homes, Vacuuming once a day is okay. Regular vacuuming will help to remove embedded dirt in the fibers. Abrasive to carpet fibers is sand. Vacuuming often will help to remove them.

Some homes need more vacuuming:

  • Homes with dogs or cats
  • Homes with children who like to play outside
  • Homes near undeveloped land, a pond, or a lake with a sandy beach.

Inspect your vacuum often. If you use a vacuum that requires a bag, change it when it when it’s full. A loss of vacuum suction can dramatically reduce the amount of particles it picks up. Check the brushes and belt on the bottom. Sometimes they are worn from abrasion or not rotating.
