Fall is now here and that means less sunshine, vacations, and of course more time spent indoors. The other side of the coin means your kids are back in school but more dirt, sweat, and leaves are tracked indoors! To help keep your home and possessions clean this fall I have listed the following fall cleaning tips for your house.

Shoes off Policy:

Shoes off policy can be hard to consistently follow. However if accomplished at fall time it’s a great rule to have. The way to do it is simply place a doormat at each door and ask family members and guests to remove their shoes before entering.  You can also place a mat or something next to the door for a temporary home for those messy shoes. This simple tip keeps dirt, dust, water, and debris from tracking into your home during a busy, fun-filled fall. Also, your beautiful carpet, tile, or hardwood floors will stay clean longer and you’ll spend less time sweeping or vacuuming the dirt off your floors and more time with the people you love!

Use Paper:

During the holidays dishes seem to be endless. Especially when you’re the hostess, cook and clean up chief. Whenever you have guests over or enjoy time with your family, do yourself a favor and give yourself a break from those mountain of dishes and use paper plates instead. Also using your dishwasher less will keep your home cooler and you’ll enjoy a clean sink without piles of dishes. Sit back and enjoy your evening meal on plates you can simply just recycle or toss. Let the trash get bigger and the sink be empty!

No Trash Odor:

Of course if your following my advice from about you will have be more aware of the aroma your trash could potentially put out. Also when it heats up in the home during the fall with more people and a heater unit running, trash cans tend to become smelly fast when trash is exposed to high temperatures. It’s a good idea to take trash out often, even if half full. Also clean and disinfect your trash cans for a fresh start.  Also you can buy scented trash can liners to keep your house smelling fresh.

Clean Patio Doors and Tracks:

Now that the air is cooling, epically in Texas, if you like me you’re using your patio and sliding glass doors a lot more often, it’s probably a good time to clean the tracks and keep the doors in great working condition. How to accomplish this is to simply spray an all-purpose degreasing cleaner on the tracks and wrap a rag around the head of a screwdriver. Make several swipes to wipe out all the outdoor gunk. This will keep your doors opening and closing smoothly all fall long.

Keep Shower Doors Open:

By Leaving the shower door or curtain open after you shower will allow the walls to dry.  This helps especially with glass wall showers. This prevents molds and mildew growth on tile and other areas which means you’ll spend less time in agony scrubbing the shower walls. Use a preventative shower spray as an added deterrent to keep molds and mildew at bay. There is one that can be placed on the shower head and rotates and sprays for you. One less thing to clean ;)
