My Untrained Dog
Life is full of unexpected surprises both pleasant and unpleasant! I have experienced both these surprises recently when my wife, my wife’s sister and my daughter all went out on a whim to find a new dog. They ended up finding the cutest of all dogs a mix between Chihuahua and Terrier. He is full of love, licks and fun.
However we found out this18 month old dog was not potty trained when he came to his new home and used our carpet as his new place for potty time. Funny thing is, my wife thought he was pre-trained because his paper work it stated, “potty trained.” Because of this experience, as a professional carpet cleaner who specializes in pet odor removal, I now have more sympathy for people who struggle with removing both the odor and yellowing that urine often creates in carpet.
So when my new dog started having these new and random accidents I had to glance back at some of my recent blogs to find out how to remove the odor and yellow staining caused by urine in carpet. I have listed some methods used below to clean up these messes. Take a look.
How To Remove Pet Urine:
Start by using some folded paper towels to soak up the urine. Then lay something heavy on top (like a book or brick) of the towels to help absorb as much waist as possible. Let it saturate for 2 minutes. You will have to replace paper towels when they appear to be soaked. After you have absorbed most of the urine then rinse the area with hot water and finish by absorbing it up with a dry paper towel.
After you have completed this process, use a pet odor neutralizer (found in pet stores) to properly sanitize and clean the area.
If the urine has been settling for a while a different approach more than likely is required. Try renting an extractor or wet vac. It will help by deeply embedding the water through the carpet. I recommend not using lots of soapy chemical cleaners. They can cause more headaches than solving issues. Instead try using some vinegar with hot water. If you have a hard time identifying the spot then try using a black light. Best to use the black light at night so you can see better.
I hope someone out there like me find this information helpful. If none of these methods work you can always contact your local professional carpet cleaner.
