When I started this carpet cleaning business I had no idea what I was doing as far as running a sustainable business.  I knew how to clean carpets because I was formally trained by a large carpet cleaning company in my area.  But when it came to gaining customers, running the business and how to keep things sustainable was a learning curve I learned along the way.  In this blog I would like to share with you my process and how I was able to create and sustain my thriving carpet cleaning business.

The first and most important thing I did was commit by business to the Lord.  He still owns it.  My wife and I prayerfully started this business. We gave it to the Lord through prayer but also through tithing to our local church.  By giving to the Lord one tenth of our earnings it represented the one hundred percent of our income.  So he owns it all and he can bless it all or do whatever he wants with it.  It’s his.

The second thing I did that contributed to the success of my carpet cleaning business was using the time I had to acquire customers.  I had more time than money so I gave my time to door knocking commercial establishments during the day and residential homes during the evening.  This brought in about four to five thousand a mount.  It was a good way to start.

By door knocking I ran into a Chamber of Commerce to expose me to other potential customers.   This was great because of the low cost of only three hundred a year and because of the time I had available to stand in front of other business to share mine.  It created a good referral base and customer development.  I was able to acquire some commercial accounts, realtors and customers.  To this day I still have customers and referrals as a result of the Chamber.

Then I knew I needed to build an online presence.   So I was introduced to a SEO business in the chamber who could help start my online presence.  I did my homework and asked the business there who were already working with them to see if it was worth my money.  The all gave me a thumbs up.  SoI did and it turned out to be very successful.  As a result of this I no longer had to go to the Chamber or knock on doors and do door hangers.  This alone was generating a sustaining five thousand a month.

Then the best, free and profitable thing I’ve did was created a My Business Google Page.  This allowed me to be seen on the local map pack.  When I started building up my five star reviews it brought good customers at an accelerated pace.  This took my five thousand dolor a month business to a ten thousand a dolor month business.  I also did free Yelp that helps to bring in a few more customers a month.  On line reviews is the way to go to get good customers and sustainability.
