Butter is not better if it’s spilled on your carpet, so you better get to cleaning it up as fast as you can!  It can be little bit tricky to remove the butter because of the fats used to produce it.  I have written below some very helpful tips as great ways to remove butter.

  1. REMOVE THE EXCESS PRONTO! The longer you wait the more it sets in and becomes harder to remove the butter. Right away you need to grab a utensil of any kind (not plastic because it can break apart while using it) and remove the top layer of butter.  I prefer a butter knife (not just because it is called “butter knife”) but because I have found it to be the most effective than all the other utensils.  If you choose to go with the butter knife, I suggest scraping the excess butter by having the knife edge facing down and at an angle.  It both scrapes and lifts the butter off the fibers perfectly off your beautiful carpet.  If you can do this with exceptional skill and precision then I will personally congratulate you and call you Dr. Butter Cup!
  2. ABSORB.  Sprinkle a powder product like baking soda or cornstarch and allow it to absorb the butter. This works very well in most cases!  It’s what I like to call sweet beans and cats pajamas!  When you apply the powder product be sure to allow 20-35 minutes of dwell time so it absorbs properly.  After the time is up then all you need to do is simply vacuum it right up.    Repeat this process if necessary again and again and again.
  3. CLEAN. Next, apply a mixture of dishwashing soap and hot water.   In most cases this should remove the butter stain.   After this process simply rinse well with just water and blot with a towel.  You will then find yourself jumping with jolly good joy after you see this stain magically disappear!  Its better than watching a magician pull a rabbit come out of a hat!

4.DRY CLEAN-SOLVENT.   It unlikely the stain should remain but if it does then try using small dry-cleaning solvent with a sponge or rag.  If you don’t have any cleaning solvent on hand you should find some located at your local hardware store.  I personally like Home Depot as my go to for some of my cleaning needs.  When you get it simply blot with the sponge or rag until you see the stain disappear. Remember to do a hidden test area before you start on the stain.   You could try a closet corner or someplace like that where nobody can see it.   Just remember every carpet reacts different to certain cleaning products.  Don’t despise by not being wise!
